Health Care Reform
This weekend, the House of Representatives passed the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, an extreme anti-abortion amendment to health care reform. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment would not only prohibit abortion care coverage in the new public option, but could also take away women’s ability to purchase coverage of abortion care in the Exchange, even with their own funds. This goes against the central tenet of health care reform – that no one will lose the benefits they currently have.
The Senate will be debating their health care reform bill in the next few weeks. Contact your Senators now and tell them that this assault on women’s access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion care, is unacceptable.

Providing Abortion Care: A Professional Toolkit for Nurse-Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants informs, supports, and catalyzes efforts to promote the provision of abortion by certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
The Toolkit includes essential information and statistics about:
- Abortion and access to abortion
- Professional regulation, competencies, and responsibilities
- The roles of state and national professional organizations and state licensing boards
The Toolkit helps clinicians compile crucial evidence and documentation to support the integration of early abortion care by guiding clinicians in the development of a professional portfolio which documents:
- Basic and abortion-specialty education, knowledge, and training
- The clinical and professional standards they use in providing safe care
The Toolkit also includes case studies to provide strategies for success.

Clinicians for Choice would like to take this opportunity to honor Nurse Practitioners and their dedication to providing women and their families with high-quality, patient-centered health care.
NPs, as well as CNMs and PAs, provide a competent source of women’s primary care and often practice in rural and other medically underserved communities. Clinicians for Choice supports the role of NPs in women’s reproductive health and takes this opportunity to say thank you to its Nurse Practitioner members!
