Politicians should be protecting, not jeopardizing women’s lives and health.

Statement by Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), on today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing:

Instead of holding more unnecessary hearings on abortion, the Senate Judiciary Committee should be working towards filling the vacant Supreme Court seat.

The decision to seek abortion care is one that is best made by a woman in consultation with her health care provider and those she chooses to involve. The Senate Judiciary Committee should not be considering laws that disregard evidence-based medical best practices, the Constitution, or the real circumstances and complications women can face during pregnancy.

I applaud Christy Zink, a member of NAF’s Patient Partnership, for sharing her abortion story in yet another Congressional hearing. We could not be prouder of her willingness to fight for the rights of other women to make their own private medical decisions.

Politicians should be protecting, not jeopardizing women’s lives and health.
