As his nomination advances, NAF continues to oppose Sessions

Statement of Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s 11-9 vote to confirm Jeff Sessions as Attorney General:

As the nomination of Jeff Sessions advances to the full Senate, NAF continues to strongly oppose his confirmation as Attorney General of the United States. Sessions has a long record of opposing protections for abortion providers and we remain unconvinced that he will adequately enforce the laws that protect abortion providers and their patients from threats and violence.

Session’s nomination has broad-based opposition from a wide range of groups that work to advance civil rights and women’s rights, including legal scholars. NAF urges Senators to fully consider the record of Jeff Sessions and reject his nomination as Attorney General.

The National Abortion Federation (NAF) is the professional association of abortion providers. Our members include individuals, private and non-profit clinics, Planned Parenthood affiliates, women’s health centers, physicians’ offices, and hospitals who together care for approximately half the women who choose abortion in the U.S. and Canada each year. Our members also include public hospitals and both public and private clinics in Mexico City and private clinics in Colombia. Our mission is to ensure safe, legal, and accessible abortion care, which promotes health and justice for women.
