BREAKING: Gorsuch Advances Out of Committee

Statement of Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s 11-9 vote to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch:

As the nomination of Neil Gorsuch advances to the full Senate, NAF continues to strongly oppose his confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice.

Neil Gorsuch evaded basic questions about protecting women’s reproductive rights during his hearing, and did nothing to assuage our fears that, if confirmed, he would vote to considerably weaken or even overturn Roe v. Wade. Although he deflected questions about Roe and the legal right to abortion, Gorsuch’s record of hostility to reproductive freedom speaks clearly about his views and the way he would rule if confirmed to our nation’s highest court.

Based on his record, writings, and the circumstances of his nomination, we believe Gorsuch would put women’s lives and health in jeopardy. Senators must hold to the 60-vote threshold and defeat this unacceptable nominee.
