Colorado Voters Reject Personhood Amendment
Today, Colorado voters rejected Amendment 67, which would have redefined “person” in the state criminal code and granted constitutional rights from the moment of conception. This is the third “personhood” ballot initiative Coloradans have defeated since 2008.
“This amendment was nothing more than another attempt to outlaw all abortions in Colorado,” said Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF).
In addition to banning abortion, the amendment was so far-reaching that it could have banned commonly used birth control methods like IUDs and emergency contraception.
“Amendment 67 was another attempt by abortion opponents to sneak a complete abortion ban into Colorado law. However, the citizens of Colorado saw through this attempt, and chose to put women’s health first,” said Saporta.
