Letter: An effective measure
February 25, 2014
The Concord Monitor posted my letter to the editor today on the New Hampshire Senate’s approval of a 25-foot buffer zone around abortion clinics:
We applaud the New Hampshire Senate for approving a 25-foot buffer zone around abortion clinics in the state. In a recent National Abortion Federation survey, 51 percent of clinics in areas that had enacted buffer zones reported a decrease in criminal activity after the zone was put in place, and 75 percent said it helped improve patients’ and staff members’ ability to access the clinic.
Buffer zones have proven to be an effective measure in dealing with the decades-long problem of threats, obstruction, and violence outside of abortion clinics, while still protecting the free speech rights of abortion opponents.
