PEI will expand abortion access

Statement by Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and the National Abortion Federation Canada, on the Premier’s announcement about abortion access in PEI:

We applaud the Premier’s announcement today to respect Charter Rights and make safe, legal abortion care available on PEI. Women should not have to travel out of the province to obtain the abortion care they need. We are pleased that PEI’s government will be moving forward with plans to set up a hospital-based reproductive health care clinic by the end of the year.

The National Abortion Federation (NAF) is the professional association of abortion providers. Our members include individuals, private and non-profit clinics, Planned Parenthood affiliates, women’s health centers, physicians’ offices, and hospitals who together care for approximately half the women who choose abortion in the U.S. and Canada each year. Our members also include public hospitals and both public and private clinics in Mexico City and private clinics in Colombia.
