Protect the Supreme Court
President Trump promised to put forth a Supreme Court nominee who would “automatically” vote to overturn Roe. There is nothing in Neil Gorsuch’s record to suggest he won’t do exactly that. We need a Supreme Court Justice who will honor established constitutional protections, including access to safe, legal abortion care. That is not Neil Gorsuch.
With his upcoming confirmation hearing on March 20th, followed by a Senate floor vote, there has never been a more important time to act. CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY and tell them to oppose the nomination of Neil Gorsuch.
Gorsuch is not who we need on the Supreme Court:
- In two 10th Circuit cases, Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor [1], Gorsuch voted to allow bosses to deny women insurance coverage for birth control.
- Gorsuch has demonstrated he will go to extraordinary lengths to reach a result that would block women’s access to basic reproductive health care. In 2015, Utah’s Governor ordered that the state strip funding from the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah. A panel of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a preliminary injunction to block the defunding efforts. Gorsuch took the highly unusual step of voting to rehear the three-judge panel’s decision [2], even though neither of the parties nor any judge on the panel requested a rehearing and the time for such a request had expired. In this instance, Judge Gorsuch was willing to ignore court custom to ensure that Utah’s Governor could eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood.
- An independent Supreme Court is the final safeguard against abuse of power, and Gorsuch is not willing to be an independent check on the President. He has criticized constitutional litigation [3], arguing “liberals” have “become addicted to the courtroom, relying on judges and lawyers rather than elected leaders and the ballot box…”

I’m calling because I am outraged by Trump’s attacks on women’s health, including his nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. I want to urge Senator _____ to vote against Gorsuch and do everything in his/her power to block this nomination. The courts are now our last line of defense. So, any nominee to the Supreme Court has to be ready to be an independent check on the President and Congress. Given his anti-choice record and his failure to establish that he can be an independent check, Gorsuch is not fit to serve on the highest court in the land. I hope I can count on Senator _______ to oppose and block his nomination.
